2009 State 'B' Wrestling Tournament in Aberdeen

The Philip Area Scotties placed 6th as a team at the SD State "B" Wrestling Tourney in Aberdeen on Friday & Saturday, Feb. 27th & 28th. Colby Sue is a manager & in the front row.
Travis was 6th, Blake was 4th, Andrew was 8th, and Clint & Mick were both the state runner-ups! We lost a few that were truly heartbreakers with some of our other guys & we really felt bad for them - they are still state placers in our hearts.

The team left a day early because of the forecast of a lot of snow - so, many of us fans decided that would be the thing to do too! So we got to our hotel in Ipswich Wed. night late. This is a diner down the street a little that we all went to for our one meal on Thursday. A real cool place!

There was an upstairs with shuffleboard so I went to investigate & took this from above them!

It was very cold out (we're near Aberdeen ya know!) so Mary Lou had her trusty stocking cap on too!

I ordered my old stand-by - a cheeseburger deluxe - and I couldn't even open my mouth wide enough to get it in there for a bite!

I guess the 'lots of snow' forecast was right huh?!?

Becky missed a curb under the snow & took a spill - but didn't get hurt! Adreann helps her up!

The younger girls spent the extra day at the hotel getting into the Scottie Spirit - making cool shirts.

Us older gang spent the day playing cards - we even made our own court whist score cards & played that! It was fun! Many of the rest of our fans arrived on Thursday later in the day.

Want company? Play solitaire!!!!

Friday evening after the wrestling, there were a few wrestling move demonstrations!

Some thought that since the motel used to be a hospital, there could sure be ghosts... and sure enough, you hang out long enough on a Friday night with this crowd & there DID appear a ghost!!!

Saturday night after the tourney was over we had called Shenanigan's and reserved room for about 30 people we had said...

But never underestimate the Scottie fans! There were 60 of us there! And they got us all seated & served in a real short order! It was great!

Then back to the hotel for one more night gathering. There was a sign that said 'No Dogs' but we had some people that just 'come with dogs'! They had ok'ed it with the management first, but we had to tease them a little!

A tired wrestling Mom after all the excitement & stress are over ... maybe 2:00 AMish on Saturday night. A weekend well spent and now over ... a son's wrestling career now over, but also well spent... an era of watching sons wrestle now over ... many wonderful memories with wonderful friends ... I remember the feelings well from last year when my own sons were all done with the sport ... Very bittersweet ... we are so proud of all our boys and what they have accomplished ... the present wrestlers and the past wrestlers ... they have made us all proud! It is a little sad when we realize it is all over for us ...

And here is our Colby - doing her job at the tournament - keeping the books during the matches. She also presented herself well the whole weekend! We are proud of ALL of our Scotties! It was a fun, exciting weekend spent with lots of good friends and 'family' (if you are in the wrestling community you understand...)

Scottie Wrestling ... it's About LIFE ...

And we got to see our little guy who resides in Aberdeen these days! That was really fun too!

Now tomorrow night our girls basketball team plays in the regional finals in Rapid City! If they win that, Philip people will head back to Aberdeen for the State tourney for that too in a couple weeks! Always something!

We are done with sections and only one Spartan is going to State our heavyweight senior. But he really deserves to go! Levi wrestled 145# on Saturday, but already weighed 156# by evening! Look out Dairy Queen!
