What A Difference A Week Makes in SD!

A week ago tomorrow was the day we were sitting at the football game in our shirtsleeves! Well, it started to rain here on Wed. morning. The wind blew something fierce! Like 60mph! Then it turned to snow with that wind... then yep... a SD blizzard!!! But this morning the sun is shining & look how pretty the sights were around the house!
Wasn't this window pretty? This is our kitchen table window yesterday - you could not see out - but with the pretty window hanging Mom made on it, it really looked pretty!

This was this morning. Kieth was able to get out to give the cows some hay today, so that is them over in the upper right. I actually had to walk out to there - thru the drifts, etc. to give him a message this morning. That was quite a trek in these conditions! There is ice under the snow - but sometimes not quite thick enough ice & I found some foot tall soupy areas in the corrals that were not thick enough... COLD!!!

This was yesterday during the snow - when I could see out the north windows. You couldn't see very far even then.

This was out the south windows.

Here we found out that not too much snow looks like it will accumulate in front of the garage door of the new house.

The same with the front door. I think there will not be very many storms that will have stronger winds with the snow than we had with this one. We probably only had like maybe 6 inches of snow - but that wind... Chancie, on the other hand, sent a picture on her phone of her car parked in Lead, and you really can hardly see her car! They had ALOT of snow!

So, for a house update... The electricians were here on Monday, didn't get finished - I thought they'd be back this week, but I haven't seen them since, so they have at least another day left. The plumbers were here Wed. & got 2 of the bathrooms all put together & the 3rd one is close. They were still working when we lost our electricity so had to quit cause you couldn't see very well by then anymore - 4:30 PM on Wed.
Then we were out of electricity for a few hours, & got it back. At 10:30 PM on Wed. it went out again & we didn't get it back till 8:00PM on Thursday. And I know there are several that didn't get it back then yet. ALOT of poles went down. I sure do admire those guys who go out in that nasty weather to get us all up & going as soon as possible! Kieth had brought a generator down & we hooked the pellet stove up to that (& the coffee pot!!!) right away Thursday morning. Then by Thursday afternoon we hooked up 2 lamps to it too so we could continue to read. So it wasn't too bad. Except that even with the pellet stove going it was pretty darn cold in here with that awful wind! Oh, & while it was raining we found 2 new leaks in the ceiling of this old house right in the little living room! But it really doesn't even bother me now!!! How about that?!
The Philip volleyball team was to play in the District championship game on Thursday night in Murdo against White River. Of course that had to be postponed - they set it for tonight & now that has been postponed till tomorrow night.
We had planned to go to Aberdeen tomorrow to see Lincoln's last football game of this season. But I think maybe that will have to be cancelled:( Dog-gone-it!
Weather can sure have a determining factor on your plans can't it?!?
Well, I hope to varnish the 2nd coat on some doors this afternoon, but better get some warm soup made for the guys for dinner now! Hope you all fared ok in all of this!
Deb

I do miss snow on the plains!!! As soon as I get my pics back I'll e-mail them to you. I was able to get home today but wont be able to park at the house for a LONG time! The drifts are still over 6-7 ft tall on either side of the street and in the driveway! There is no where for the snow to go. I'm glad that everyone there has power again!
